Pepsi was made in the summer of 1893 by Caleb Bradham. Bradham was born in 1867 in Duplin county NC. He enrolled at the University of Maryland to be a doctor and worked part time as a pharmacist apprentice at a local drug store. Due to a family crisis he had to leave the medical school. When he returned home he taught for a short while before opening Bradham's drugstore. This would be the place that Pepsi got its start. Most soft drinks had narcotics in them. Bradham wanted to make a diffrent soft drink,so he created "Brad's drink". It was made from a mix of sugar, water, caramel, lemon oil, nutmeg, and other natural additives. Brad' drink was renamed after Caleb Purchased the trade name "Pep Cola" for $100. The new name was trademarked on June 16th, 1903, Making Pepsi one of the earliest trademarks. Bradham's neighbor, who was an artist, designed the first Pepsi Cola logo and was given 97 shares of Pepsi stock. This logo was changed in 1905, and 1906. By 1904, Pepsi Cola sales had reached almost 20,000 gallons. When demand for the drink rose, Bradham began to cell Pepsi in bottles.
